Synopsis

Three years after the accident that killed her family, Mia has rebuilt her life at Juilliard in New York. Adam, once her closest confidant, is now a famous rock musician whose band's success has left him hollowed out and estranged from the person he used to be. Told from Adam's point of view, the story picks up after their breakup, when a chance layover strands him in the city where Mia now lives.

Over one night of walking the streets of New York, the two revisit what happened between them after Mia's recovery and why their relationship fell apart. The narrative moves between the present night and the intervening years, tracing how each of them tried, and failed, to move on.

A quieter, more interior sequel to If I Stay, centered on fame's cost, the discipline of music, and whether two people who once saved each other can find their way back.
