This was a DELICIOUS book! It's set in 19th Century, Montréal, and It spans themes of gender identity, sexuality, class inequality, obsession, friendship, love and above all revolution. It's subversive and unique, and since I dived in blindly, I wasn't expecting any of the things that kept happening. My idea about it was that it's a book about two friends, which it is if one wants to limit this book, but it's a dark and twisted friendship but weirdly, barely toxic! (Or it might be toxic but I'm too blinded by modern literature which is making toxic behavior very hazy)
The two FMC, Marie and Sadie were instantly attracted to each other despite being polar opposites in everything, and their lives revolved around each other!
Theb, to my great surprise this wasn't just what the story is about! It took a very surprising and unexpected turn, it became a story about the power that women hold within them and how they can turn the world upside down if they wished to.
It became an exhilarating read, the events became so entertwined, and the writing was suffused with an incredible humor!
This is for sure one of my favorite reads of the year!!
