Synopsis

Libby lives two lives at once. When she falls asleep in one, she wakes in the other, and she remains the same person at heart in 1774 Colonial Williamsburg and in 1914 Gilded Age New York City.

In Williamsburg she is a public printer who works for the House of Burgesses and the Royal Governor. She is trying to support her family and the Patriot cause. Henry Montgomery, the man she loves, keeps secrets of his own, and the approach of revolution threatens both their lives and any hope of a future together.

In New York, Libby's days are full of money, drawing room conversation and eligible bachelors. The one work she cares about, women's suffrage, meets disapproval. Her mother wants her married to an English marquess, and rising talk of war in Europe adds pressure.

The arrangement has a limit. On her twenty-first birthday, Libby must choose one path and give up the other. Each life holds people and purposes she cannot easily lose, so the book turns on how she can choose at all.
