Synopsis

This special double issue of Social Text re-examines the political usefulness of the term 'queer.' It argues for a renewed queer studies that considers global crises like neoliberalism, religious fundamentalisms, and the return to 'moral values.' Through sixteen essays, contributors explore the limits of queer epistemology, the potential of queer diasporas, and the rise of queer liberalism, rethinking queer critique in relation to contemporary issues such as the war on terrorism, the prison-industrial complex, and the politics of citizenship and migration.
