We Live Inside You

A collection of short fiction from Jeremy Robert Johnson, published by Swallowdown Press in 2011, which opens by telling you exactly what it intends: "We are within you, and we are growing. We are the fear of death that drives you and the terrible hunger that reshapes you in its name."

The stories are nightmarish without being interchangeable, and Johnson's particular trick is that the strangest ones are also the ones that land emotionally. Jack Ketchum described the collection as dancing to a very different drummer, from a writer who loves language, loves the edge, and, unusually for the territory, likes people.

It won the Wonderland Award for Best Collection.
