We are All Completely Beside Ourselves

Rosemary Cooke grew up in an ordinary American family, except for one detail: her sister Fern was a chimpanzee. Rosemary loved Fern as a twin, but after Fern's sudden expulsion, Rosemary fell silent. This story explores the Cooke family's well-intentioned actions and the heartbreaking consequences that force Rosemary to confront memory, identity, and what it means to be human.
