Synopsis

In the meadows of the English countryside, a small, nervous rabbit named Fiver is gripped by a vision of unspeakable horror coming to his warren. When the chief rabbit refuses to listen, Fiver's brother Hazel gathers a handful of others and leads them out into the wide, terrifying world beyond the only home they've ever known.

What follows is a perilous journey across fields, roads, and rivers, dogged by predators, men, and the rabbits' own fears, as Hazel's ragged band searches for a safe place to build a new warren on the high, wind-swept ground of Watership Down. Along the way they weather betrayals and battles — including a reckoning with the ruthless, militaristic warren of Efrafa — and tell one another the old stories of the trickster-hero El-ahrairah.

Richard Adams's beloved classic is an epic adventure with a world, a language, and a mythology entirely its own. At once a gripping survival tale and a rich meditation on freedom, leadership, and home, Watership Down has enthralled readers of all ages for half a century.
