Synopsis

Water Sleeps is the eighth and concluding novel in Glen Cook's Black Company series, bringing the saga's decades-long history to a head. As the mercenary company navigates a campaign against a sorceress of immense power, the narrative is told through the eyes of Sleepy, the company's annalist, whose first-person account spans generations of the company's history. The plot centers on a desperate military campaign, a betrayal, and a hidden threat that has simmered beneath the surface for generations. Gritty, morally ambiguous, and steeped in the tradition of epic military fantasy, Water Sleeps is the culmination of the series' central arc.
