Synopsis

Melville Heights is one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Bristol — a hillside of pastel houses overlooking the harbour, where everyone seems to be watching someone. Newlywed Joey Mullen, back in England and adrift, develops an infatuation with her charismatic older neighbour, Tom Fitzwilliam, the celebrated new headmaster the papers call the "Superhead." Across the street, sixteen-year-old Jenna Tripp worries that Tom is too close to her best friend, while her mother is convinced the Fitzwilliams have been stalking her family for years. Tom's watchful teenage son Freddie observes all of it from his bedroom window.

Then a resident of Melville Heights is found stabbed to death, and every crush, grudge, and hidden history on the street becomes a possible motive. Moving between several points of view — and a schoolgirl's diary from twenty years earlier — Lisa Jewell's Watching You is a twisty, atmospheric thriller about surveillance, reputation, and how little we truly know our neighbours.
