For the record, I called the reveal of the last chapter halfway through the book.
Warcross wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read. It also was a LOT better than some I’ve read. I loved the technological aspect of it, and a great deal of the inventions created for this world seem plausible to me—admittedly, I know nothing about computers. I really liked Emi as a protagonist. She was a lot of fun (though I gotta say, Hammie’s probably my favorite). The game of Warcross seemed incredibly basic to me, but hey if people want to play a virtual battle game, who am I to stop them?
Aspects I didn’t like? God Emi, why don’t you just talk to people?? I was incredibly frustrated with her inability to actually be honest with her team (yet Asher, Roshan, and Hammie has her back the whole time anyway, and seemed to get over it real fast when she did mess up). I also disliked how she seemed to forget about her old roommate (what’s her name again?) as soon as the Games started.
Also, it took over half the book for me to get really invested in the story. The first portion is disappointingly slow-moving, and I almost stopped reading a couple times because of it. I would read a sequel, though, as now I’m definitely interested!
