Picture this: it's early spring, close to sunset, the sky is blue tinged with pink clouds, there's a warm breeze, the air is crisp, and a feeling settles in, it's neither joy nor pure melancholy. You're in between. This is the feeling that this book conveys for me. That stillness in emotions, a peace mixed with nostalgia. It's full of detailed imagery, each poem is a story of longing, self questioning, lovers, hidden emotions. Just like in her songs, Lana bares her soul with consistency. She sets a mood and doesn't deviate from it, and she hasn't for years and yet she keeps it refreshing and she renews it and the muses have blessed this woman with an unparalleled gift for bringing up emotions even when you don't personally relate to the stories she's telling. But there's something in every poem you can still relate to, a line, a metaphor, an image... I'm a fan of Lana so this review might be biased, but I read a lot of poetry in my day, and this qualifies to be amongst my favorites. I was expecting something hipsterish, devoid of essence and I found the contrary. A sensitivity, a fragility, an ethereal writing. I'm under the charm of this book that I devoured and I wanted more.
