Synopsis

"Vier verrückte Schwestern und ein Freund in Afrika" is the German title for the second book in Hilary McKay's Exiles trilogy (following the Guardian Prize-winning debut). Ruth, Naomi, Rachel, and Phoebe are once again at the center of family chaos, with the sisters' antics this time tangled up with a trip connected to Africa that shakes up their usual routines.

McKay continues the trilogy's blend of sharp sibling banter, farcical misunderstandings, and genuine family warmth, keeping the same cast of eccentric relatives from the first book while widening the scope slightly beyond their grandmother's house. As in the first novel, the sisters' love of reading and dislike of anything resembling productive activity remains a running joke throughout.

The German edition, illustrated by Susann Opel-Götz, was published by dtv as the second installment of the series.
