Synopsis

Five years after the events of Vicious, Marcella Riggins survives her husband's brutal betrayal and a house fire that should have killed her — and wakes with a new, corrosive power that can reduce steel to rust and people to dust. Determined to never be powerless again, she sets out to take control of the city of Merit, pitting the two most infamous EOs, Victor Vale and Eli Ever, against each other and each other's pasts.

Victor is unraveling: the same act that brought him back from death five years earlier now causes recurring, fatal electrical episodes. He travels with Sydney Clarke, the young EO who can raise the dead, her surrogate guardian Mitch Turner, and their dog, trying to stay ahead of a government task force and a new enemy who understands EOs as well as they do.

V.E. Schwab's Vengeful widens the Villains world with new extraordinary players — including a shapeshifting assassin named June — building toward a reckoning between everyone who has ever been called a monster.
