Synopsis

Logan Ramsay works for the Gene Protection Agency, policing the illegal genetic engineering that ravaged the world a generation earlier. Then an accident exposes him to a strange viral agent — and he begins to change: sharper focus, faster reflexes, a mind that outpaces everyone around him. The upgrade traces back to his mother Miriam, a brilliant, controversial geneticist presumed dead, and to a plan for the future of the human species that his estranged sister Kara intends to carry out on a global scale. As Logan's abilities accelerate beyond his control, he has to decide what he's willing to do — to his family, and to himself — to stop it, even as his wife Beth and daughter Ava become collateral in a conflict he never chose. Set in a near-future Denver and stretching from small-town Montana to New York City, Upgrade is Blake Crouch's tenth standalone science fiction thriller, a fast, propulsive story about ambition, evolution and what we owe the people we love.
