Minka Kent
Minka Kent is a British author of paranormal romance and urban fantasy novels, including Unmissing and The Memory Watcher. She lives in the Cotswolds and writes fiction set across the UK and the United States.
Unmissing
Merritt Coletto's life is arranged the way she wants it: a husband, Luca, two young children, a comfortable house. Then a woman turns up who has been legally dead for ten years.
Lydia is Luca's first wife. She disappeared a decade ago and was presumed murdered, and now she is standing in front of them saying she was abducted, held for years, and finally escaped. The family takes her in, because what else do you do, and Lydia begins occupying more and more of the space around Merritt's marriage.
Minka Kent alternates between the two women, and neither account sits entirely still. Lydia's story of where she has been has gaps in it. So does Merritt's account of how she came to have the life Lydia used to have. The novel is less interested in whether Lydia is telling the truth than in what each woman stands to lose if the other one is.
Luca's wife, whose settled family life is disrupted when his first wife reappears after ten years.
Luca's first wife, missing and presumed dead for a decade, who returns saying she was abducted and held.
Merritt's husband, and Lydia's before her.
Merritt Coletto is married to Luca and raising two children when Luca's first wife, Lydia, reappears after ten years missing and presumed dead. Lydia says she was abducted and held, and eventually escaped. The novel alternates between the two women as Merritt weighs how much of Lydia's account she believes, and how much of her own past she can afford to have looked at.
There is no widely known movie adaptation of Minka Kent's book Unmissing.
