Unloved

Unloved is told in alternating first-person chapters from Brynn Cadogan and Cassidy Porter. Two years after her fiance Jem was murdered just before their wedding, Brynn discovers his phone still holds an unsent text referencing Mount Katahdin. She travels to Maine to bury the phone there as a private tribute - and is brutally attacked during the hike.

Cassidy Porter finds and shelters her. He has lived apart from other people for most of his adult life, having promised himself and his mother that he'd never risk becoming what his father was: a man convicted twenty years earlier of murdering a dozen young women. As Brynn recovers in his care and the two grow close, Cassidy has to decide whether to let himself be loved despite what he fears he might become.

The novel is a contemporary romance with a suspense thread running through it - the identity of Brynn's attacker, and the shadow of Cassidy's father, both stay unresolved for much of the book.
