Daniella Mestyanek Young was raised inside the gates of a religious cult in Brazil, where she endured years of physical and emotional abuse. At fifteen, she escaped to Texas, taught herself to navigate the outside world, and eventually joined the US Army. However, while serving in Afghanistan, she discovered that the rigid, male-dominated structure of the military mirrored the very cult she had fought so hard to escape.
