J.G. Farrell
James Gordon Farrell (25 January 1935 – 11 August 1979) was an English-born novelist of Irish descent, raised partly in England and partly in Ireland. He is best known for his "Empire Trilogy" — Troubles, The Siege of Krishnapur and The Singapore Grip — which examine the human and political costs of British colonial rule. A severe bout of polio contracted while at Oxford in 1956 left him with permanent weakness in his right arm. He drowned in a fishing accident off Bantry Bay, County Cork, Irela...
