Synopsis

In a world where humans have evolved to live without brains, a young woman named Nao finds herself an anomaly, possessing a brain that allows her to think and feel in ways others cannot. As she navigates a society that views her as both a relic and a threat, Nao struggles to understand her own existence and place in a world that has moved beyond the need for individual thought. Sayaka Murata (村田沙耶香) is a Japanese novelist and short-story writer, born on 14 August 1979 in Inzai, Chiba Prefecture. She worked part-time as a convenience store clerk in Tokyo for eighteen years, until 2017, and drew on that experience for the novel that made her name internationally.
