Dick Francis
Dick Francis (1920–2010) was a British steeplechase jockey turned crime novelist. Born in Coedcanlas, Pembrokeshire, Wales, he served as an RAF pilot in the Second World War before becoming one of Britain's leading National Hunt jockeys, riding over 350 winners and serving as jockey to Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother — most famously aboard Devon Loch, which collapsed within sight of victory in the 1956 Grand National. After retiring from racing in 1957 he became a journalist and then a novelist...
