Time and Regret
Grace Hansen opens a box that belonged to her beloved grandfather and finds his diaries from World War I. A cryptic note addressed to her sits beside them. It hints at a past he never spoke of, and at family secrets buried for decades.
Determined to work out what he left her, Grace follows the diary entries through towns and battle sites in northern France. Along the way she grows close to a charming Frenchman. She also begins to sense that someone is following her.
The book moves between her present-day travels and her grandfather's vivid wartime writing. Through the diaries, Grace meets a man quite unlike the one who raised her. He watched countless friends and loved ones die horribly in battle. He lived with regret for the rest of his life.
His were not the only secrets. The further Grace digs into her family's history, the harder it becomes for her to trust the relatives she thought she knew. The puzzle he set her may end up costing her more than answers.
