Synopsis

Thrum follows Ami, the sole survivor of a doomed deep-space mission, who wakes from cryosleep to a dead crew, an empty fuel tank, and a broken comms array. Her distress call is answered by Dorian, an alien being who takes her aboard his ship and insists on helping her in every way he can, though nothing about his ship is quite as it seems. As Ami searches for a way home, a low, persistent hum begins to haunt her, and Meg Smitherman's novella slowly reveals her to be an unreliable narrator whose grip on what really happened to her crew is far shakier than she lets on. This is psychological horror built on isolation and a slow unraveling of memory, more claustrophobic dread than graphic violence.
