Danielle Stewart
Three Little Lies
The date night was supposed to fix the marriage. Instead her husband takes her hand and says there is something he needs to tell her, and she can read from his face that whatever it is, it is bad.
She has been here before. Another woman, another apology, another decision to forgive him because that is what holds the family together. Before she can answer, her daughter rings, frightened, asking her to come home.
What she comes home to is police cars, and blood in the garage, and an understanding of what her husband has done that arrives before anyone tells her. Danielle Stewart's narrator has worked very hard for the life she has, and as her husband is taken away in handcuffs, what surfaces in her is not grief but calculation. Even if he is a killer, she is not willing to lose the family over it.
