The mugging, and the attempted assault that follows, jolts loose an old photograph — and with it, memories of Oxford, where as a young woman she studied under a brilliant, controversial professor and befriended two very different Muslim women.

Elif Shafak braids the present-day dinner, with its politically fractious guests, together with Peri's Istanbul childhood between a secular father and a devout mother, and her transformative, scandalous years at university. There she fell under the spell of Professor Azur, whose provocative seminar on the idea of God drew a small circle of students, and formed an intense triangle with Shirin, the defiant Iranian of "Three Daughters of Eve" by deleted_258","My another Elif Shafak read, been really admiring her writings, style and ideas. This too was so good and really enchanting that I love every bits of it. A story of Peri, a Turkish woman that caught up into her past-- a question of personal beliefs, God and religions, faith and identity. Three Daughters of Eve explores the broad views of different cultures/upbringing and morality (also politics), a spiritual journey in back and forth to the past and present (which only happened for an evening), it gives a terrific and poetic debate of one's perspective that I find it really mesmerizing (although some are questionable) and intriguing. I love Azur's way of dealing with his point of view, also Shirin is so 'exotic' and too random (sometimes)-- a contrast version of Peri, also Mona. I love all the bookish talk between Azur and Peri-- bookworm characters are my favorite! A lot of -ism stuff in here, very philosophical but it was done perfectly with great phrasing and development. Ending was a bit sudden to me cause I actually wanting more of Peri and Azur's present narrative but nevertheless, Elif Shafak really got me hooked with her storytelling just like usual.",5,"none","rv-01kr8189krkxedv8djh3fmyhkx",[],"2026-05-10T04:10:16.000000Z
"https://api.seekquel.app/api/works/01kkc84wgzh6dm0cascw29x2nq/reviews",20]
