it wasn’t necessarily a bad book but it overused some writing techniques too many times and to me that’s lazy writing. at least one time per chapter i read “had she looked beyond the trees she would have found…” or “had he paused to ask himself if blah blah he would’ve realised that blah blah”. per se it’s not a bad thing, but when it shows up so many times it becomes annoying because i can not NOT see it. it disrupted my reading experience a lot.
it also failed to create the tension i was expecting, but that might be because i’ve been reading a lot of horror lately and not much surprises me anymore.
i did, however, enjoy the short chapters and the multiple POV, it fleshed out the characters really nicely. the same happened with the past chapters, they were a nice change of pace.
