Thirteenth Child

Eff is the thirteenth child, born with the supposed misfortune of her birth order, while her twin brother, Lan, is destined for greatness as the seventh son of a seventh son. Their family moves to the frontier, where their father takes a professorship at a magic school. This new home is dangerously close to a magical divide, a boundary separating settlers from wild beasts, forcing Eff to confront her destiny and the challenges of a new, untamed world.
