Synopsis

When Paris Peralta is arrested in her own bathroom, covered in blood beside the body of her much older celebrity husband, she becomes the obvious suspect in his murder. But the looming charge is not what frightens her most. The sudden glare of the media threatens to drag a long-buried secret into the light — one that ties her to a notorious woman who has just walked out of prison after decades inside, and who is finally ready to talk.

Told across two timelines, Jennifer Hillier's thriller peels back the layers of Paris's carefully constructed life to reveal the abandoned, abused child she once was, and the choices that let her survive. As an old friend and a true-crime producer starts digging into her past, the distance between who Paris is now and who she used to be collapses.

Tense, dark, and propulsive, Things We Do in the Dark is a psychological thriller about survival, reinvention, and the cost of the stories we tell to stay alive. It is a standalone, though it shares a fictional world with some of Hillier's earlier novels.
