One thing about the way Ann Patchett writes her essays is that it’s so accessible you’d think you can easily do the same. But no. The way she conveys emotions, the way she draws a life lesson from the most ordinary occurrence but at the same time retaining value and in no way making it cringe or lame, is impeccable. It makes you linger. It makes you pause and ponder.
I enjoyed reading the book while listening to her. Also, she’s mentioned that Tom Hanks narrated The Dutch House so I’m definitely picking it up soon.
I also loved how she’s meticulous with choosing the covers of her books and how this one (the painting of the dog) is related to one of the most heartwarming and heart-wrenching stories in These Precious Days.
If you want a book that gives you a little bit of everything when it comes to love, family, friendships and life in general then this is definitely the one.
