Synopsis

A woman seeks an undemanding job, hoping for minimal thought and effort. She finds herself in a series of peculiar roles, from monitoring a suspected author to writing bus adverts for shops that vanish. Through these increasingly strange experiences, she discovers her true search is not for an easy life, but for something far more significant.

Kikuko Tsumura (born January 23, 1978) is a Japanese novelist from Osaka. She won the 140th Akutagawa Prize in 2009 for Potosu Raimu no Fune (The Lime Pothos Boat), and her fiction, much of it drawing on her own experience of office work, has also received the Dazai Osamu Prize, the Noma Literary New Face Prize, the Kawabata Yasunari Prize, and the Tanizaki Prize.
