Synopsis

There Are More Beautiful Things Than Beyoncé is Morgan Parker's second full-length poetry collection, using political and pop-cultural touchstones as a lens on twenty-first-century Black American womanhood. The poems address performance, depression, isolation, exoticism, racism, and femininity, moving between personal narrative and cultural criticism.

Parker draws on jazz standards, visual art, hip hop, and family history to build a voice that shifts between vulnerability and posturing, tragedy and excellence, private feeling and public spectacle. The collection sits at the center of contemporary conversations about race and womanhood in America, engaging directly with celebrity and Black cultural icons as material rather than subject matter to admire from a distance.
