Synopsis

Then We Became picks up a year after the events that ended Nora London and Nate Sullivan's relationship. Nora has taken a writing scholarship meant to give her a fresh start and put an ocean between herself and Nate, but a twist of fate lands her in Spain for a week — and Nate is there too, older and quieter than the boy she remembers, still holding pieces of a history neither of them has fully let go.

Over the course of the summer, old wounds resurface alongside old feelings, and Nora and Nate have to decide whether the version of them that survives this reunion is one they actually want, or another version of the same mistake. Monique Medved continues the story begun in Before We Were with a slower, more reflective take on the childhood-friends-to-lovers arc, centered on grief, growth, and the particular difficulty of loving someone you've already lost once.

Then We Became is book two of the Every Summer After series, published January 22, 2026.
