Synopsis

Melanie Phillips argues that despite living in an age of supposed reason, society is increasingly irrational, embracing cults, prophecies, and conspiracy theories. She asserts that the decline of religious traditions, particularly Christianity and the Hebrew Bible, has led the West to abandon the very concepts of reason and an orderly world that underpin modernity. This abandonment, Phillips contends, leaves the West vulnerable to real threats, as truth and lies become indistinguishable and rationality is forsaken.
