Marisa and her younger brother Tony face hardship alone until Tony's serious trouble leads Cesare Gianelli to offer help. Cesare's condition for assistance is marriage, which Marisa reluctantly accepts. Despite quickly falling in love with her new husband, Marisa discovers Cesare only desires a competent housekeeper.
