Okay… is it just me or did nothing really happen for most of this book lol.
I went into The Well of Ascension super excited because I loved The Final Empire, but this one felt very slow to me. There were definitely parts I enjoyed. The political tension, the shifting alliances, some of the character moments. But overall I kept waiting for something big to happen and it just kept on dragging.
For a book called The Well of Ascension, I expected way more focus on the actual lore behind it. Instead we spend a huge chunk of the book in strategy meetings, siege discussions, and internal doubts. Which I get, it makes sense for the story. But it did not always make for the most engaging reading experience. And then suddenly in the last 100 pages everything happens at once and we finally get the lore and reveals I had been waiting for the whole time. I also appreciated some deeper looks into certain characters, but even then, I was not as emotionally invested as I wanted to be. It felt like a middle book in a trilogy in the most obvious way.
