The waiting room
Veronica Shelton's husband died at almost the moment her daughter Sophie was born, and postpartum depression has had hold of her ever since. She is a children's book illustrator trying to keep her life together, and she has not been able to hold her own baby in months.
Then Sophie disappears, and Veronica becomes the police's chief suspect. Her journals record the times she felt her daughter would be better off without her; strange images of a girl keep turning up in her drawings. Two people she met in her therapist's waiting room, Gillian and Mark, seem to want to help — or something else. With nobody willing to look for Sophie, Veronica has to find her herself, without being certain of her own memory.
Emily Bleeker's psychological thriller is a novel about grief, postpartum depression and manipulation.
