Synopsis

The Unknown Ajax is a classic Regency romance by Georgette Heyer set in 1817 at Darracott Place, an old manor on the Kent-Sussex border. When Lord Darracott's heir dies unexpectedly, his grandson Hugo — a soldier of the Peninsular War with a rough Yorkshire accent and a disarming, unpolished manner — is called home to take over the estate. The family assumes he is a commoner; Anthea, his betrothed cousin, despises him on sight for what she takes as coarseness. He in turn finds her intolerable. As their mutual dislike gives way to unexpected attraction, both must decide whether they can trust who each of them truly is.
