Synopsis

Seven-year-old Celia vanishes while playing outside her family's historic home, leaving her parents, Christopher and Janet, devastated. Christopher, a fantasy writer, retreats into a grief-fueled world of imagination where Celia still exists. He writes about the disappearance's impact from the perspectives of those haunted by her absence: Janet, the investigating policeman, and himself. This novel is an exploration of profound loss and inconsolable grief, showing how a town is subtly but lastingly changed.
