The Tea Planter's Bride
The Tea Planter's Bride is the second novel in Janet MacLeod Trotter's India Tea series, a standalone historical saga set on the tea estates of 1920s Assam.
Sophie was taken from her parents' Indian tea plantation as a young child after being orphaned, and raised instead in Scotland. Years later, restless and drawn back to the land of her birth, she follows her cousin Tilly out to India, expecting adventure. What they find is a colonial world far removed from their romantic imaginings: oppressive heat, remote tea gardens, and a community with long memories.
While Sophie becomes entangled in questions of love and belonging, Tilly cannot let go of the mystery surrounding how Sophie's parents really died — a thread that pulls both women deeper into the plantation's past than either expected.
