The Stars and the Blackness Between Them

Sixteen-year-old Audre is sent to live with her father in Minneapolis after her relationship with the pastor's granddaughter is discovered. There, she meets Mabel, a classmate who is quietly questioning her own sexuality and quietly battling a life-threatening illness. As the two become inseparable, Audre draws on the healing traditions of her grandmother to support Mabel through her treatment, and the two build a bond that will define both of their futures.
