The Snowy Day
Experience the magic of the first snowfall through the eyes of a young boy named Peter. Dressed in his bright red snowsuit, he explores a winter wonderland, making snow angels and sliding down hills. Though he can't join the older kids' snowball fight, he finds his own adventures and learns about the fleeting nature of snow. The next day, more snow falls, bringing new opportunities for play and friendship.
The Snowy Day was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1963, recognizing it as the most distinguished American picture book for children published that year. This award highlights its significant contribution to children's literature through its illustrations.
The Snowy Day is the first book featuring Peter, a character who reappears in several subsequent books by Ezra Jack Keats, including "Whistle for Willie" and "Peter's Chair." While each book can be read independently, they collectively follow Peter's experiences as he grows.
The Snowy Day has been adapted into an animated special, which brings Peter's winter adventures to life. This adaptation captures the gentle spirit and visual style of the original picture book.
