Synopsis

A family is shot dead in the snow. One of the children lives. Three years later that child takes revenge, and the Snow Killer is born — and then, abruptly, the murders stop and the case goes cold.

Half a century on, people are dying in Peterborough again, and they die when it snows. DI John Barton and his team have a series of victims nobody much mourns, a motive they cannot see, and a forecast that keeps threatening more weather. The killer, meanwhile, is telling their own story — the novel alternates between the investigation and a first-person voice reaching back into the decades that made them.

The first DI Barton novel establishes Ross Greenwood's Peterborough setting and its knackered, likeable murder squad, and hides its killer in plain sight.
