Synopsis

When financial hardship follows their father's death, eldest sister Sarah Summers persuades her siblings to take in paying guests to support their mother. Emily and Georgiana agree, but Viola — who hides a facial scar behind a veil and has withdrawn from society — resists. Committed to seeing the venture through together, the sisters open their coastal home to lodgers, only to find themselves hosting unmarried gentlemen rather than the elderly invalids they'd anticipated. Sarah finds herself drawn to a widowed Scottish gentleman even as she wrestles with family duty, while Viola is forced to confront both her visible disfigurement and deeper emotional wounds. Book one of Julie Klassen's "On Devonshire Shores" series.
