Me being a biased reader is an understatement. The thing is: I saw the movie first, and so, Anthony Hopkins' deep gaze will forever be engraved in my mind as that of Hannibal Lecter's (note my off-the-charts fascination with the character)
In a nutshell:
- The plot line is steady and engaging, yet the build-up of 400 pages is rushed in a downfall of two hurried ones.
- I didn't like the writing style, it was very frustrating, to say the least.
- The sexism in this one, argh rolls eyes
- I wished for a more detailed Buffalo-Bill point of view.
My 3-star rating is solely given to the depth of the characters (by that, I'm yet again referring to Dr. Lecter). I could keep rambling on how engrossing he is, but I'll spare you the details of my teen-like-crush. So, yeah, I have an unhealthy obsession with flesh-eating-psychiatrists, big deal.
All in all, the movie was better (I stand by it). I'm wishing the sequel will quench my Hannibalistic-thirst for more psychological insight.
