After finishing, this book is a bit conflicting for me. On one hand, it is very well written and the storytelling really draws you in. The idea of the story, in theory, is good. But there were too many places where I thought that there is no way this could really happen, because some of the choices the characters made don’t seem like choices the majority of people would make given the situation. There were too many realistic questions that went unanswered for the story to be believable. Where were their parents? I get that Freya and Kat had no parents, but why are the other kids’ parents OK with this? How can Mac’s mother let them live over there knowing the situation? Why didn’t Ben and Carla leave when Ben got sick? Why did they think it was a good idea for a pregnant girl to never see a doctor? Why would they blindly follow Simon for so long? Those questions in the forefront of my mind made the story less enjoyable.
