A dystopian version of The Bachelor? Really? Is that what people want to read? It took me six hours to read all three books in this poorly written series and all I can do is wonder why it is so popular. There were so many glaring issues that writing them all down in this review would take more time than I spent reading the trilogy. But I will name a few that nagged me the most.
Her world was not convincing or compelling. It felt like a silly after thought. The author wanted to create America as a monarchy so she could day dream about becoming a Princess, but did not bother to spend time making that transition seem plausible.
The characters are stereotypes. You meet the feisty redhead with a temper, the blond bombshell mean girl, the sweet girl next door, and even the small girl with the small voice who's name is TINY! Really?
She told me this story, what there was of it. She made no effort to show us anything. There was very little detail an therefore, very little substance beyond the awkward dialogue.
I know this is not the best of what YA Fiction has to offer, but I am disappointed to see that it is rated so highly here on Goodreads.
