This book is touted to be the textbook 101 dark academia definition - a college setting , murder , a very exclusive group and the perspective of the outsider into the group. Very well written , but I did not really like it. The pacing was fast at times , but this needn’t have been a 600 page book.
We follow around some very unlikeable characters , most of them rich and trust fund babies ,not necessarily making them spoilt , but kind of entitled. Though they are unlikeable , they are relatable ( to an extent , I still did not digest the love angle between the twins ) . Only the characters of Richard , Henry and Bunny are explored in depth , the others are kind of a supporting cast. And the teacher , Julian , for whom everyone is ready to drop everything and hold him in the highest regard, and exclusively study just with him , makes very few guest appearances here and there.
The murder(s) are not a surprise at all. They actually turn out pretty lucky with how they escape both the murders. Very Dostoevsky-ish. The crime and the punishment (guilt).
There is endless drinking , smoking , lying to each other , not enough eating ,not enough sleeping and overall terrible behavior with each other.
I think I like books where I have some one to root for .
