Synopsis

In 1886 London, a seemingly ordinary shopkeeper named Adolf Verloc leads a double life as a spy for a foreign power. When a plot involving a bomb and the Royal Observatory threatens to expose him, Verloc finds himself entangled in a dangerous web of anarchism, espionage, and exploitation. This dark novel explores the lives of those on the fringes of society, caught between political intrigue and personal desperation.

Joseph Conrad was a Polish-born British novelist, who became a British subject in 1886. He is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English though he did not speak the language fluently until he was in his twenties (and then always with a marked Polish accent).
