The kind of books that start like nothing very special, just a nice story about a Japanese widowed mom, her teenage boy and a sailor, then it turns into dark psychological monologues, deranged teenagers, and the sea as a continuously lurking shadow. The events escalate slowly to a magnificent last hard blow. The ending is gutt wrenching in it's subtlety and cruelty, the story lingers on for a long time, It affected me psychologically, so I keep having flashes of this book throughout my day, and it feels so good, it's my own ''on demand escape moment''
