I'm not gonna do a review, I'm just gonna rant about how great this trilogy is (yeah I read it in French but I can't be arsed to find the right fancy words to talk about this) So, the trilogy is amazing, I'm fuming because it took me years before I found the courage to read it because I was too scared of it (wasn't scared of GoT, my brain works in mysterious ways). Anywho, this was an epic read, and what made it more epic is that I already watched the movies (soooo many times) it helps with the imagination. On a side note, Peter Jackson gave these books justice, even though he cut some parts, changed some bits, empowered some characters (like Arwen) yet it remains very faithful to the books and he managed to bring to life a very hard story, he didn't butcher it, he gave it soul in the most perfect ways (and some parts he missed, were incorporated in the Hobbit trilogy, so let's stop bashing that). After reading this I realized something: JRR Tolkien's works are entwined and soooo detailed that there will always be something you will miss and won't fully understand from the first read. And something really cool about his writing is that he leaves no loose ends, and I hate loose ends in books and movies, so it was extremely satisfying to get to know what happened to all the characters after the war, in a lengthy appendix. Another good point, this story of fighting a great evil and all the emotional turmoil that comes with it, came to me in the right time (you know, pandemic and quarantine and looking for some meaning or purpose in all of this), Tolkien helped a lot because the whole story is about fighting a great, seemingly unstoppable, evil and it echoed the fight humanity is going through right now. All of this said, I vow to reread these books in upcoming years, once is not enough!
