If I had to explain this book to someone, I'd say it's a contemporary YA novel about friendship and growing up, set in a dystopia.
This is the first Patrick Ness' book I've read and i have to say I'm not disappointed. I laughed a lot. It's been a long time since I actually laughed out loud while reading. He also made me care about all the characters. Even secondary ones.
And I loved the part at the beginning of every chapter with the story of the indie kids. Oh man, the indie kids. This makes fun of all the cliches. Vampires, zombies, boybands . But somehow it still handles serious thimgs like anxiety and anorexia (if it is well handled or not I can only guess).
Completely recommendable and I'm seriously planning on re-reading it at some point.
